Tibetan singing bowls: the healing power of sound

Tibetan singing bowls produce vibrations that penetrate the body and bring it into a state of deep relaxation. This is how this ancient therapy works.

The origin of Tibetan singing bowls

Tibetan singing bowls, also called singing or Himalayan bowls, are traditionally made from an alloy of seven metals, each associated with a planet of classical astrology. For centuries they have been used in the Himalayas for meditation, rituals and healing.

How does sound therapy work?

By striking or rubbing the rim of the bowl with a wooden mallet, it produces a continuous, harmonic vibration. These sound waves penetrate the body at a cellular level, helping to slow down the nervous system, lower the heart rate and bring the mind into a meditative state almost automatically.

Benefits of bowl therapy

Immediate deep relaxation of the nervous system.

Reduction of anxiety and accumulated stress.

Improved concentration and sleep quality.

Harmonisation of the energy centres (chakras).

A sense of expansion, peace and connection with oneself.

What is a sound bath like?

In a Tibetan bowl session you lie down comfortably, usually with your eyes closed, while the therapist plays the bowls around and over your body. The experience usually lasts between 45 and 60 minutes, and many people fall asleep: this is completely normal, it is a sign that the body is letting go. When you finish, you feel renewed and calm.
