Meditation is simpler than you think
Meditating is not about emptying the mind: it is about training attention. It means choosing where to place your attention (the breath, the body, a sound) and, when the mind wanders — and it will wander — bringing it back with kindness, without judgement. That is all there is to it.
How to start with 5 minutes
Find a quiet place and a comfortable posture: sitting on a chair or cushion, with a straight back and relaxed shoulders. Close your eyes and bring your attention to the breath. When you notice the mind drifting, simply return to the breath. Repeat for five minutes. If it feels too long, start with two.
Build the habit
The key to meditation is not duration but consistency. Choose a fixed time of day (on waking or before sleeping) and link the practice to that moment. An alarm, a cushion that is always there, or the same music each day all help the habit to settle in on its own.
Meditation and wellbeing
With regular practice, meditation reduces stress, improves attention and emotional regulation, and changes your relationship with your own thoughts. It is the most accessible tool for training calm, and it combines wonderfully with massage, Reiki and Tibetan singing bowls.
